When editing my magazine, I ended up mostly using Photopea. I originally planned to do most of the work in Procreate but I’m glad I changed my mind because the process could have been way harder.
I had the flat plans I made as a guide but I did steer away from them quite a lot. At first I started out with the main cover photo. For all my photos I added a “grainy” effect because I think it makes the image look more futuristic and adds interesting texture. I played around with the settings using the “camera raw” filter. For the text I knew I wanted to have it in the pink and green colours, but I noticed that especially the bottom text was not very legible, so I played around with effects on the text layers. Here are the different versions I made before I got to the final cover and some screenshots from Photopea.
version 1 version 2 version 3
The first version was nice but as I said I didn't think the text was legible enough, but before adding the effects on the text layers, I tried this second version. I drew out 2 white rectangles and lowered the opacity to create a sort of border. I still wasn't pleased with this option because I felt like the cover looked too sectioned + the issue no. text did not look great in the rectangle or over it in my opinion. Here you can see what the effects look like on the third and final version.

For the back cover I didn’t do much editing, only applied the same filters from the front cover to make them look more cohesive
For the table of contents I started with the page on the left. All through out the magazine I wanted to include close ups of the drawing. I then paired it with a close up shot from the photoshoot; I wanted to include a photo in which i’m wearing the black shirt for some variation. I had an idea where the table of contents spread would have the pages be green/pink and not the creme colour so I tested out how this page would look with different background colours. I thought it looked too crowded though, so I scrapped the idea altogether.

For the right page of the table of contents spread I decided to again incorporate the drawing with two other photos from the photoshoot. I mostly followed the original layout I had in mind. I tested out different colour variations for the text but eventually ended up with pink for the title and green for the titles and page numbers.
Finally, for the feature article spread I created a ‘border’ out of the close up photo of the drawing and added my favourite photo from the photoshoot on the right and the text on the left.
